Dictionary and word list sources
The default solver searches 172,823 ENABLE words. Its coverage is broad, but it is a word list, not a definition service or a live tournament dictionary.
Source and attribution
ENABLE stands for Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon. Alan Beale and M. Cooper compiled the list and released it into the public domain. We use the 172,823-line ENABLE mirror maintained in dolph/dictionary. The original ENABLE documentation, preserved by Bart Massey, describes the project and its public-domain status.
You can download the exact word list used here. We have not added game scores or changed its entries. The list is lowercase and contains individual words, including uncommon forms. A result is a match in this list, not a recommendation about tone or suitability; some entries may be offensive.
What a match means
Exact mode requires equal counts of every letter. All possible words mode allows unused letters, but never extra letters. Case does not matter. Spaces, straight apostrophes and hyphens are ignored. Other characters are rejected. The default list contains no candidate phrases; use a custom list to check complete phrases you supply.
A matching input word can appear among its own results. We do not remove it just because its spelling is unchanged. Results include all matching entries under the chosen length filters; the display loads them in batches of 150, while copying and exporting include all matches.
Check your game's dictionary
Different games and editions accept different vocabularies. This site is independent and is not affiliated with Scrabble, Hasbro, Mattel or Zynga. ENABLE is not a promise of acceptance in a current official word list. Follow your game's rules about using outside help and check a disputed word with the game's own dictionary.
A missing word may be a name, new term, abbreviation or spelling variant outside this list. It is not automatically an invalid word. You can supply a custom list you have permission to use when your puzzle has a defined set of possible answers.
Report a problem
For incorrect letter matching or a broken control, email contact@anagramsolver.cc with a non-sensitive example, the selected mode and the length range. For a disputed dictionary entry, include the entry and the rule or dictionary you are comparing it with. We will distinguish a software error from a difference in vocabulary.
Five-letter tools and version
The Wordle solver and five-letter finder use only five-letter entries from this same ENABLE mirror, captured October 5, 2026. This broad general English set is not the official current Wordle answer list or accepted-guess list. A word can satisfy your feedback and still be rejected by the game. The solver does not track daily answers or answer history.
The rack unscrambler uses the same general dictionary and supports at most two blank tiles. It has no board scoring, licensed current Scrabble dictionary or official game-validity guarantee. See the repeated-letter guide or complete worked word lists.
